Hush and Let Me Read – Poetry

Coffee cup upon the table, splatter stain below-
The dog is chewing on a shoe-
Yard really needs a mow-
Hush and let me read.

The cat box smell has begun creeping-
Laundry basket starts to overflow-
Walled up thoughts are seeping-
Hush and let me read.

Husband talking in another room-
Cellphone chirps again-
Child with a hotwheel playing, zoom, zoom, zoom-
Hush and let me read.

Read a page, thoughts start flying-
Take a note then try again-
Another page, focus retrying-
Hush and let me read.

Mommy, mommy what can we eat?-
Whatcha reading? Read to me-
Mommy, mommy I want a sweet-
Hush and let me read.

House is quiet, all are sleeping-
Finally time to read-
Energy exhausted, yawning eyes weeping-
Hushed I fall asleep.
